Technology is moving at a faster pace, as it has made our work easy. But then it is also having a negative effect on many traditional careers, which are becoming more automated. Many people are getting unemployed and losing their jobs due Artificial Intelligence in their careers.

There are many jobs that are in threat right now whether it is a Taxi Driver or any Librarian or Travel Agents. Technology has impacted everyone.

Following 10 are some careers that are on the verge of extinction in the next 10-20 years.

1. TRAVEL AGENTS

There was once a time when booking for getaways, we used to go through some brochures and finalize the best deals from travel agents. 
Now with the easy to use websites, like Make my Trip, Trivago or GoIbibo, anybody can arrange their own holiday with pre-booked accommodation and flights. We can easily book for our whole family in just one click and it's easy as the prices are somewhat similar on each website. 
All you need is your bank card and few spare hours. Many travel operators have realised this, and are closing down branches to focus on their online offers.

2. CASHIERS

It is been clear to anyone who has been in a grocery store or big box chain that the days of cashier are numbered. 

Amazon is taking a step further by experimenting with its AMAZON GO stores, that don’t have checkout lines at all as payment is done online by people.

While not everyone is on board, with some preferring to still use cash to better track their spending but, one thing is for sure, requirement of cashiers is no more.

3. LIBRARIANS

Guys, do you remember when was last time you visited to a public library?

Although, there will be books in the world – regardless of success of e–readers like kindle.

But, it doesn’t look good for librarians. 90s kids must have remembered the old days when to read comics of marvel or "champak", they used to visit the libraries and issue books also. Many educational institutions like, schools and colleges still have libraries to get that old school effect but then also they are less visited by the students.

Many public libraries are struggling to stay open due to funding cuts, while academic institutions have already started to upload their texts online for convenience reasons.

4. POSTAL COURIERS

While there will still be the need for couriers to deliver parcels, things don’t look good for the traditional postman delivering letters each morning. 

This is mainly because, the things they deliver won’t exists in the next 20 years, with bills and statements viewed and paid online, mails moving to your email inbox rather than letterbox and the written letters have become dying art. In early days people used to write letters to their loved ones and wait for replies for too long and that essence of wait used to be different than today's age of technology.

5. DRIVERS

The world will always have drivers of some sort, and we will probably still be driving in 10 years. But there are a lot of resources being dedicated to handing over wheel to automation. 

Self driven cars are only a few years away, and when switch happens, it’s not just our personal vehicles that will be autonomous, it will be uber vehicles and public buses too.

Big automobile firms are on there way to apply artificial intelligence to their products to ease the work of public.

6. FARMERS

Not all farmers will disappear within 10 years, but as we’ve seen over the past couple of generation, there role will diminish.

At one time, most Americans were farmers. Now, there are only around 2 million across the country. Technology is making it easier for fewer people to produce more yield, and it’s likely that indoor organic farms will start increasing due to their popularity. The new batch of farmers might resemble scientists and biologists. Also people are doing special agri courses to go for this field.

7. TELEMARKETERS

There was a time when you didn’t want to answer your phone because you thought it might be a telemarketer. They still exists but only in few numbers. 

These days, robot callers are replacing telemarketers. Companies go for robocalls as they will be able to make more calls in less time, also eliminate the need for employers to pay people to do this job.

This will no doubt increase maintenance cost but it will be lesser than paying salaries to people.

8. FISHERMEN

Professional fishermen face threats to their jobs on all fronts. The technology is clearly getting better, i.e. fewer people are required to run an operation. 

But imports of sea food and farm raised fish are becoming more popular and cheaper. 

There is also issue of over-fishing to take into consideration which no doubt was making the marine life on the verge of extinction and the fact that climate change also impacting the available stocks of fishes.

9. PRINTERS AND PUBLISHERS

Publishing and printing, at least in the old-fashioned sense, is an endangered industry. 

Technology has brought it to the digital realm, and we have seen the aftermath in declining newspaper readership and rise of e-books.

After all, why wait until tomorrow to read about the news, when there is absolute wealth of sources online that offers minute-by-minute coverage?

But, we still receive newspapers every morning at 6 AM and some people still love to read newspaper with that morning tea which can never be changed.

10. SPORTS REFEREES AND UMPIRES

If you’ve ever fancied a career as a referee or an umpire, chances are your services won’t be required in future. 

People make mistakes; after all so why not put a robot in charge? Plus, who are you going to argue with when you feel the robot has made a bad call? 

It is all sensors and circuits and isn’t influenced by the crowed, players or coaches. This move will surely reduce scope of error as well as the extra drama of people.

WHAT SHOULD I DO INSTEAD?

Although the prospects for these jobs might look grim, it’s not all bad news. There are some areas in which one can choose their careers and not get unemployed even after 20 years.

A. CREATIVE JOBS

Jobs that require genuine creativity such as, artists, scientists or a business strategists where computers will never be able to replicate them. Also becoming a you-tuber is a good option for a creative person.

B. RELATIONSHIP BASED JOBS

These jobs include doctors and other medical professionals or business professional who maintain close relations with clients.

C. UNPREDICTABLE JOBS

These jobs include emergency services in random locations such as plumbers or gas engineers.

Despite of the jobs that are on the verge of extinction go for the career options that you love.
